MW4 DMZ FAQ
Quick answers to the questions new mw4 dmz players ask most.
What is MW4 DMZ?
DMZ is an extraction-mode experience set in the Call of Duty universe. You drop into a large shared map with other squads, complete missions and loot gear, then reach an extraction point before the match timer ends. Anything you extract is kept; anything you lose on death (without insurance) is gone.
Is MW4 DMZ free to play?
Historically the DMZ mode has been available to players who own the relevant Call of Duty title. This guide covers the mode's mechanics and strategies, not store licensing. Check the official store page for the current access model.
How does extraction work?
Exfil points appear on the map and activate on a timer. Move to a point, call the helicopter, defend the landing zone briefly, then board before the window closes. Some exfils are player-triggered and have limited seats, so plan your route early.
What happens when you die?
If you die without extracting, you lose the contraband items you brought in and found during that raid, unless they are insured (insured items return after a cooldown). Your core progress, mission unlocks and insured slots are safe. This is why disciplined extraction beats greedy looting.
What is the best beginner weapon?
A controllable assault rifle with an optic and recoil control is the safest start — it works close and mid range and uses common ammo. See our Weapons & Loadouts page for a starter build and cheaper alternatives as you learn.
Where are the extraction points?
Exfil points are marked on our interactive map (filter by 'Exfil Points') and listed on each location page. They are usually near map edges and activate on a timer rather than being always open.
How do DMZ missions work?
Missions are objectives from factions (e.g. Legion, White Lotus, Black Mous, Crown). Completing them earns reputation and unlocks better insured weapons and loadout options. Some missions have prerequisites and recommended routes — browse the Missions page for difficulty, region and step-by-step guides.
