MW4 DMZ Release Date, Price & Is It Free

The questions people ask first about the next DMZ mode are simple: when does it release, how much does it cost, and is it free? This page separates what the DMZ mode's history already tells us from what is still waiting on an official announcement for MW4 DMZ.

How DMZ has launched before

DMZ is not a standalone game — it is an extraction mode that ships inside a Call of Duty title. The most recent version launched on 16 November 2022 alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022), and the following year's title, Modern Warfare III (2023), continued to support the mode. That pattern is the single most useful clue for anyone asking "when does MW4 DMZ come out": the next DMZ mode is expected to follow the next main Call of Duty release, not arrive on its own.

Call of Duty's annual release cadence

The Modern Warfare sub-series has shipped on a roughly annual rhythm:

• Modern Warfare (2019) — the reboot of the sub-series; no DMZ mode yet (DMZ was introduced in 2022).
• Modern Warfare II (2022) — launched 16 November 2022 with the DMZ extraction mode included.
• Modern Warfare III (2023) — launched November 2023 and kept DMZ support within the title.

Reveals for the series typically land at the summer Call of Duty Next showcase, with launches in late October to November. If that cadence holds, an MW4-era reveal would most likely appear at a summer showcase and a launch would follow in the back half of the year.

When does MW4 DMZ release?

Based on the history above, MW4 DMZ is expected to arrive with the next main Call of Duty title rather than as a separate release. An exact date has not been officially announced yet — To be verified. We track the official Call of Duty news hub and the annual Next showcase, and update this page and the Updates feed within 24 hours of any announcement.

How much does MW4 DMZ cost — is it free?

Historically, the DMZ mode has been free to play for owners of the base Call of Duty title — you do not buy DMZ on its own, but you need the game it ships with. Whether MW4 DMZ keeps that model is To be verified. This guide covers the mode itself, not store licensing or platform requirements, so treat any price claim you see elsewhere with caution until it is official.

Will there be early access?

Recent Call of Duty launches have frequently included open betas or early access periods tied to pre-orders or platform perks. Whether MW4 DMZ gets an early access window is To be verified. If one is announced, the Updates page will list the dates and how to qualify.

PvE only, reviews & gameplay

Searches also ask whether MW4 DMZ is PvE-only, what reviewers say, and how the gameplay differs. Those details depend on the official reveal. In the meantime, the Beginner Guide covers how the DMZ loop works today, and the interactive map shows exfil points, missions, weapons and loot.

Frequently asked

Can the MW4 DMZ release date be confirmed yet?

No — not as of 6 November 2026. The reliable signal is the DMZ mode's launch history: it has always shipped with a main Call of Duty title, so the date will follow that title's announcement. We post it here the moment it is official.

Do I need to buy the base game to play DMZ?

In every version so far, yes — DMZ has been a mode included with the base game rather than a separate purchase. MW4 DMZ is expected to follow the same model, but that is To be verified until confirmed.

Will there be early access or a beta?

Call of Duty releases commonly include betas or pre-order early access, so it is plausible — but unconfirmed. Watch the Updates page for dates if an early access window is announced.
